Underwood Hills

Situated on Atlanta’s Westside, northwest of Atlantic Station and directly north of Piedmont Hospital, Underwood Hills was originally Northside Park. The area boomed from 1920-1950 until the construction of I-75. After numerous rezoning battles, the neighborhood is now bordered by Chattahoochee Avenue to the West, I-75 and Defoors Avenue to the East, and ends near Howell Mill Road just above Huff Road.

As the Westside has developed, so has Underwood Hills. Rebuilding began in earnest in the 1990s and the community continues to grow with single-family homes, apartments, townhomes, and condominiums, as well as commercial and light industrial businesses.

A key source of pride for the neighborhood is its park. Equipped with playground equipment, tennis courts, a basketball court, and a ball field, it also offers a covered picnic area and a paved path through a nature preserve and over a small creek. Depending on when you’re there, you might find the Underwood Hills Play Group – comprised of over 100 families – enjoying some fun.
